Drugs on the Loose

Recently, during a raid in the Ruddell Hill community two agencies found drugs, money, a gun, scanner, and cameras. The raid was conducted by the Independence County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and the 16^th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

 The agencies armed with a search warrant raided 80 Dry Run Circle and five people were arrested on drug related charges. Independence County Sheriff Steve Jeffery said the two departments found $1,040 in cash, 37 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, a 9mm handgun, and a police scanner. Also found were a set of fully operational surveillance cameras.

 Arrested from the residence and taken into custody were Mildred Mabry, 65, and Jennifer Burke, 19, both of Batesville, James Johns, 33, of Newport and David Williams, 47, of St. Louis. Michelle Burke was at a local store when the raid occurred and was arrested later.

 Johns was also held for parole violations and Williams also had a warrant in Missouri. Michelle Burke was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Mildred Mabry and Jennifer Burke can also be charged with illegally distributing meth and other controlled substances along with possession of drugs and firearms.

Growing the comunity.

Batesville is now accepting applications for garden beds in the comunity garden. A comunity garden is a great way for people to learn more about the outdoors. Gardens are a good way for familys to bond with one another and become closer with others in the comunity. Its also a good way to grow some of the things you would have to buy otherwise. A comunity garden is a good way for gardeners to share secrets and tips to others that may be just starting to plant their own vegetables, flowers, or herbes. every year my dad and I plant a garden in our back yard. I've learned a lot of things. Like how to make better use of the space I have available and how to get the most out of what I've planted. Planting a gardden has also tought me how to take better care of the soil. If you take good care of the soil it will be easier to grow all the things that you want to and get the most out of it. Because if you take good caree of the soil it'll have most of the things that plants need to grow. A comunity gardden would be a good way to teach others in the comunity how to take better care of the soil so that it will be able to supply plants with the nutreints they will need for years to come.
